Students attending the Challenger Summer Camp will “fly” two missions to Mars, experience a Planetarium show, video conference live with an actual NASA engineer, create a stop motion animated movie, create a podcast, and much more. When they are not part of a flight crew on a simulated mission, students are engineers and scientists designing vehicles and simple machines to be used on the surface of Mars. Like real engineers and scientists, campers will follow specific NASA guidelines such as cost effectiveness and durability. By the end of camp, students will have experienced some of the challenges actual NASA astronauts, engineers and scientists face.
Camps are provided for students entering grades 4, 5, 6 and 7 in the fall.
Cost: Half-Day Sessions: $125.00/week
Full-Day Sessions: $250.00/week
Camp Logistics: All full-day camps will not exceed 24 students and will be facilitated by two Mission Commanders. All half-day camps will not exceed 20 students and will be facilitated by two Mission Commanders. All Mission Commanders are certified NYS teachers with a minimum of seven years teaching experience.
